To My Reader

Wishlist Wednesday

wishlist-wednesdayI came across Wishlist Wednesday while checking out swimlindsey‘s blog and she has inspired me to join in the excitement. This meme was started by the wonderful Pen to Paper. Both of the blogs mentioned are amazing, and you need to check them out. – Wishlist Wednesday is a weekly meme that allows bloggers to highlight a few books that they’ve wanted for a while. The books that they desperately want to add to their bookshelf.

When it comes to books my wishlist never stops growing, but as I was searching through Goodreads this week I stumbled upon In The Shadow of Blackbirds by Cat Winters.

wishlist wendsday book   I’ve seen this book flying around the reading community and it sounds very interesting.

In 1918, the world seems on the verge of apocalypse. Americans roam the streets in gauze masks to ward off the deadly Spanish influenza, and the government ships young men to the front lines of a brutal war, creating an atmosphere of fear and confusion. Sixteen-year-old Mary Shelley Black watches as desperate mourners flock to séances and spirit photographers for comfort, but she herself has never believed in ghosts. During her bleakest moment, however, she’s forced to rethink her entire way of looking at life and death, for her first love—a boy who died in battle—returns in spirit form. But what does he want from her?

Featuring haunting archival early-twentieth-century photographs, this is a tense, romantic story set in a past that is eerily like our own time.

One of my favorite genres happens to be historical fiction and when I researched this book a bit more, I knew I had to have it on my shelf. That, and I absolutely love the cover! Can’t wait to read this one.
